Saturday – Brunch 11am-2pm
Saturday brunches are now open weekly from 11-2 so bring up teams for a great start to the weekend. Normal lunch options are also available.
 
 
Goldman Sachs Event – Thursday 7.30pm
For those of you attending the Vincent’s and Atalanta’s recruitment event on Thursday with Goldman Sachs, a reminder that the format will be drinks in Vinnie’s from 7pm with a short introduction from senior employees, followed by dinner in Quod at 7.30pm. 
 
 
Portas Consulting Recruitment Event – 22nd October
Next Monday (22nd October), we will be holding a recruitment event for Portas Consulting, the leading management consultancy dedicated to sport and physical activity. The event will follow similar formats to previous recruitment events, with a short presentation followed by questions and informal drinks in the clubhouse. Michaelmas Speaker’s Dinner with Livvy Breen
 
On the 6th November (Tuesday of 6th Week) we will be hosting Livvy Breen for the Michaelmas Speaker’s Dinner. 
 
At London 2012 Livvy was the youngest member of the GB paralympics team; she went on to win a bronze in the 4x100m relay (T38). From here she has represented both Wales and GB, becoming the T38 long jump world and Commonwealth champion and T35-38 100m European champion. Livvy is a wonderful speaker and inspiring individual so it promises to be a fantastic evening!
 
The bar will open from 7 for dinner at 8pm. Livvy will say a few words over coffee and answer questions, with the evening drawing to a close by 10pm. Tickets for the event are £25 for resident members, to include some wine with the meal. Please book directly with Tom at steward@vincents.org.

Mobius Capital Partners Internship
Mobius is an emerging markets investment firm in London, and would like to offer internship to Vincent’s members that are interested. Ideal candidates are self-starters, have a working knowledge of excel, an interest in emerging markets and want to learn about equity investing. Ian Williams’ Memorial Match
 

As many of you will know, Vincent’s lost one of our best-loved alumni, Ian Williams, back in February. Ian was a three-time winning Blue for OURFC and was beginning a very promising professional career when he tragically collapsed during training with Doncaster Knights.

This Saturday at 2pm is the inaugural Ian Williams memorial match at Iffley Road, with Ian’s former Swansea and Oxford teammates facing each other in his memory. There will be entertainment, food and drink available all afternoon. More information is available on the event below.

Whether you knew Ian or not do come along for what promises to be a fantastic afternoon, and a chance to learn more about the Ian Williams Foundation which has been set up in his honour.

Every year, Vincent’s Club offers awards for outstanding scholar athletes who have displayed leadership qualities and a willingness to participate in outreach activities. A range of scholarships and bursaries are available and applications for this year’s awards are open until the 29th of June. The awards are means tested and any individual who plays university sport is eligible to apply. Hg is a Private Equity fund in London, currently looking for an intern for 6-12 months. This would suit any Vincent’s member graduating this summer and looking for a job before travelling on a gap year. The job spec is attached.

Every year, Vincent’s offers awards for outstanding scholar athletes who have displayed leadership qualities and a willingness to participate in outreach activities. A range of scholarships and bursaries are available and applications for this year’s awards are open until the 7th of July. In 2015 it was possible to give four scholarships and five bursaries, ranging from £1,000 to £2,500 per annum. That amount increased in 2016 to a total of £18,000. The awards are means tested and any individual at Oxford University is eligible to apply. Advanced warning that Member’s cards will no longer be taken at the bar after the end of this week to ensure that all Tabs are cleared by the end of the academic year.

Friday – T20 Cricket Varsity
This is the first match in the Cricket Varsity series (and arguably the most exciting)
The Parks
Women’s 12pm, Men’s 3.30pm
There will be a catching competition for spectators in the interval, along with beer and food vans at the ground.
All are welcome join the cricket club for drinks in the clubhouse in the evening following the matches.
Saturday – Athletics Varsity
Iffley Road
11.30 -5.30
At 12.00 there will be a memorial mile, open to all Oxbridge Athletes, to mark the recent passing of Sir Roger Bannister- a true legend of Oxford sport and a lifelong supporter of Vincent’s Club.
The athletes will be coming up the clubhouse following the match so please join them for a celebratory/ commiseratory beer in the evening.
 
2. Speaker’s Dinner – Clever Magic from an Oxford Magician
 
On Thursday of 5th Week (24th May), we will be entertained over dinner by Johnny Oxford (John Hayns). Johnny graduated from St John’s College, Oxford and is now an associate of The Inner Magic Circle with Silver Star, and a Member of the Council of The Magic Circle. Drinks from 6.30, supper at 7.30, performance and Q&A from 8.30, finish by 10pm. £25 for residents, to include some wine with the meal. 3. Inaugural Vincent’s Tennis Tournament
 
Rosie has kindly volunteered to coordinate the inaugural Vincent’s mixed doubles tennis knockout tournament. This will take place over the course of the next 4 weeks, culminating in a final on Saturday of 7th Week. Each team must consist of at least one Vincent’s member.

4. Lord’s Varsity Cricket Match Hospitality – Friday 22nd June 2018
 
Vincent’s has booked and paid for a hospitality box for this year’s Varsity match at Lord’s. We are inviting Club members and their guests to join us. Ground admission is free for MCC members, and £13 otherwise. The minimum catering spend this year in £70 + VAT pp and thus we are asking members to pay £85 for the day. Please however note that if you are feeling particularly thirsty you may also be asked to contribute a little more to the cost of your drinks on the day!

6. Ian Williams Memorial Match

To celebrate and commemorate the life of one of our most loved members and fallen Blue, and to launch the Ian Williams (BGI) Foundation, OURFC will be hosting the inaugural Ian ‘BGI’ Williams memorial match on Saturday 16th June. His former Swansea teammates will step up against his former Oxford teammates in a match full of pride, passion, and of course, plenty of Anglo-Welsh rivalry. The bar in the pavilion will be open as will the student-budget friendly pitchside bar, and a fully stocked BBQ (including veggie options) will be fired up all afternoon.

Players and supporters are invited to Vincent’s following the event. Ian’s friends and family would like to extend a welcome to the day for all, regardless of whether you knew Ian.


7. Oriental Club membership
 
The Oriental Club, Marylebone, would like to remind members of Vincent’s between the ages of 18 and 25 that the opportunity to join for a one-off payment of £350 remains. They would be delighted to welcome more Vincent’s members and so please contact me if you wish to pursue this fantastic opportunity.

2. Harrow School Networking Event

A reminder that this evening we shall be hosting a recruitment information evening with Harrow School. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in pursuing a career in Education, with a chance to discuss graduate teaching jobs with the senior managers of the School and recent Vincent’s alumnus Johny Marsden.
 
Members are invited for drinks in the clubhouse from 7.30pm, followed by an information talk and informal networking with the school representatives. Please see the attached flyer for further information about the event.

4. Vincent’s Club Team Award

A reminder that the Vincent’s Club Team Award is now open to all University of Oxford affiliated sports teams. The applications are assessed based on team performance throughout the season, the proposed usage of the award and the team’s level of need. The winning team will be award £1000 courtesy of this award’s sponsors, Goldman Sachs.

The Club’s AGM will be held on Friday of 3rd week at 7.30. Please see the agenda and proposed rule amendments that were circulated earlier in the week. This is a very important event for the Club so please make every effort to attend.

4. Bain True North Scholarship

2018 Bain & Company True North £10,000 Scholarship for Women.

 

Are you bright, enthusiastic and curious? Do you enjoy solving challenging problems? Are you looking to chart your own course through an extraordinary career?

Bain’s London office are launching a scholarship program for exceptional female students. A group of top candidates will be invited to a two-day workshop in our London office which will offer a unique insight into our industry and what a career in consulting can offer. The workshop will be followed by the opportunity to participate in early full-time Associate Consultant interviews and the scholarship winner will receive £10,000 and a Bain mentor! The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage women to enter a field where women are traditionally underrepresented.
